Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will a solar powered gate opener work during stormy days when the sun is not out?
A. Yes, all solar powered gate openers actually run off the battery. Under normal use the battery will open the gate for several weeks, even with the solar panel unplugged.
Q. If sunlight is blocked by a tree or building structure will the solar panel work?
A. Generally, we recommend that you have at least 5 to 6 hours of sun on non-stormy days.
If you are in a shaded area where sunlight is scarce, we recommend our on board battery charger which keeps the battery charged all the time. (Note: With the on board charger there is the extra cost to run the 115 volt wiring from the house or garage to the charger at the gate opener.)
Q. What is better, the charger or the solar panel?
A. There is no difference, the battery cannot tell the difference whether it is being charged by the charger or the solar panel.
Our opinion is the solar panel is less costly if enough sunlight is available at your gate location. Top
Emergency
If your gate will not open, remove the cover to the control panel and check the blue 15 amp fuse on the right side on the circuit board located above the battery. If the fuse is blown, remove the on board extra fuse on the left and place it into the slot on the right where the blown fuse was located. (The blue fuse on the left is a spare fuse.)
If the gate still does not open and you need out, remove the 5/8” attachment pin located where the actuator arm attaches midway out on your gate. Top
